On Saturday, January 19, 2019, rivals, Lehigh University and Bucknell University battled for a chance to take the first seed in the Patriot League. This was the 172nd meeting between the two basketball teams and Bucknell was leading the way with 103 wins to Lehigh’s 68. They last met in 2018 and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks won 92-89 in overtime.

The first ever game played between these two rivals took place in 1902 which resulted in a Bucknell win. The immense history between these two schools made for a very exciting Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, PA at Stabler Arena.

Both Lehigh and Bucknell entered the game with a Patriot League record of 4-1.

The Bison and Mountain Hawks were neck and neck the entire game which led to an epic showdown within the last minute of the game. Lehigh’s Lance Trejada hit a 3-point shot with 13 seconds left which had Stabler Arena erupting with cheers. Another forced turnover by Lehigh resulted in a made basket by Pat Andree with five seconds remaining to tie the game.

However, with 1.2 seconds left on the clock, Bucknell’s Jimmy Sotos sprinted the length of the court and made a contested lay up to win the game for the Bison. Bucknell left Bethlehem victorious and will host Lehigh on February 11.
