Heather Hardy and Shelly Vincent – Two “OG’s” fighting for titles and respect inside MSG

Can the two continue the hot streak women’s boxing is on in HBO’s final act?

As we say goodbye to HBO carrying boxing, we say hello to the rise of women’s boxing. This Saturday (October 27), Heather Hardy and Shelly Vincent will do battle once again, this time inside Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. On the line will be the vacant WBO Women’s Featherweight World Championship.

Between the two, Hardy (21-0, 1 NC) and Vincent (23-1) have 44 boxing victories and have won multiple titles. The achievement’s these two share make them the “OG’s” of women’s boxing, something these two proudly call themselves. With a sport filled with talented female boxers now, how do they feel about competing on a historic brand like HBO? When asked, Heather and Vincent agreed on the following:

“Being the OG’s, fighting on HBO is extremely satisfying.”

Only the second women’s fight in HBO history, both fighters are hoping that isn’t the only change to come to boxing. Hardy has been open about women not getting proper pay or their rightful place on cards. Vincent believes that might all come when all the “OG’s” are gone. Both are still young, and a lot of the older women now can still fight. If her prediction was to be true, the boxing world would still be waiting a long time.

This is something both of these two will be fighting for. It is not all about titles, it is the idea that women were not able to get a spotlight throughout their run. They work hard to break down the wall that was holding them back. The result? An previously epic encounter that will look to be duplicated.

This is the third week in a row where dominant female fighters are in action. Two weeks ago on ESPN+, Mikaela Mayer further illustrated how much of a powerhouse she is by taking out Vanessa Bradford. This past week on DAZN, Katie Taylor, with the support of Conor McGregor and the rest of Ireland, took down her own form of competition in Cindy Serrano. Now, it is Hardy and Vincent’s turn to complete the cycle. A win by either can help enhance the streak.

Both fighters are honored to be named with these group of fighters, as they continue to try and be a beacon of hope for women everywhere. It shouldn’t be that hard, especially in 2018, right? The work continues. How can those outside of Hardy and Vincent get involved, especially this Saturday? According to Hardy, it is pretty simple:

“Shout as loud that you can that we are here! It is everyone’s responsibility, from the fighters to the promoters.”

Tickets for Jacobs/Derevyanchenko and Hardy/Vincent are still available at Ticketmaster.com and the MSG box office.
