Hockey Henrik Lundqvist Named as a Finalist for NHL Foundation Player Award Henrik Lundqvist of the NY Rangers named as finalists for the NHL Foundation Player Award by Staff Post May 4, 2015 (AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar) (The Associated Press) Defenseman Brett Burns of the San Jose Sharks, defenseman Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames and goaltender Henrik Lundqvist of the NY Rangers have been named as finalists for the NHL Foundation Player Award. This award is presented to “an NHL player who applies the core values of hockey: commitment, perseverance and teamwork; to enrich the lives of people in his community”. The winner will receive a donation of $25,000.00 from the NHL for their chosen charity. Brett Burns: Defending the Blue line, Operation Care and Comfort, and Folds of Honor. Burnzies Buzzcut, is when he and his teammates shave their heads for charity: the San Francisco Zoo and the Katie Moore Foundation (after his former teammate and current NY Ranger Dominic Moore’s late wife.) Mike Giordano: He and his wife launched “5 for 5”, which works with Habitat for Humanity, in which he donated $25,000.00 for three seasons to build five homes in five countries. (Including Ethiopia, Kenya, India and the Philippines). Team Giordano: in which he donated $100,000.00 to provide resources and support for three Calgary schools. Mike also visits Ronald McDonald House and Alberta’s Children’s Hospital. Henrik Lundqvist: has generated awareness, raised funds and increased the impact of 28 nonprofit charities he supports through a pair of organizations: the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation and the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Henrik as served as spokesperson for the Garden of Dreams Foundation since 2009. He also finds the time to help raise funds for other causes: including fighting hunger, curing pediatric cancers, improving access to quality education and aiding children and families in need.
