The New Jersey Jackals flexed their offensive muscle this past holiday weekend and dethroned the first place Quebec Capitales to take over the spot atop of the standings. Scores of 13-2, 4-3, and 7-1 helped the Jackals sweep the Capitales in Stade Municipal for the first time in two years and propelled them to the top of the league.

Friday’s score was extremely lopsided in favor of the Jackals. The 13-2 final tally came thanks to a 7-run first inning for the visiting Jackals. Homers from Vaughn, and Sandoval also helped the cause. A 6-inning outing from Brian Ernst who gave up only a single run helped set the stage for the offense to perform to its potential.

Saturday’s matchup featured a Capitales squad hungry to hang on to first place, and looking for revenger after dropping the previous night’s game by a large margin. The game came down to the 9th inning tied at 3. The Jackals demonstrated their knack for the dramatic and posted a run in the top half of the 9th and shut down the Capitales in the home half to take home the 4-3 win.

The Jackals arrived at the ballpark with their brooms ready on Sunday July 3, looking to celebrate the holiday Monday just a little early. They did not fail to deliver, and completed the road series sweep of the Capitales to leapfrog into first place. Another lopsided score, this time 7-1 helped them head back to Yogi Berra Stadium on a winning note.
