Islanders’ Nelson named NHL’s Third Star of the week

If Brock Nelson’s week couldn’t get any better, the Islanders’ center was named the NHL’s Third Star of the week.  The 28 year old has been on a tear the past five games, racking up four goals and four assists in the process.  Nelson also had back to back two goal games against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Speaking of the Penguins, Nelson’s last game against the Penguins looked awfully similar to the one before that.  The roles were reversed as the Islanders couldn’t stave off the Penguins in the third period.  However, Nelson saved the day again in OT, getting Matt Murray completely out of position and sliding one into the net to keep the Islanders’ streak alive at 16.

Nelson didn’t have a scoring impact in the Islanders’ 2-1 OT loss to the San Jose Sharks but he did draw a penalty and was excellent defensively.  It’s always an honor to be named an NHL Star of the Week, and this week it was well deserved by Brock Nelson.
