Hockey Islanders Take Over Cali by Staff Post November 16, 2015 Photo: Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images The New York Islanders took over the west coast last week, coming home from their road trip 2-1. The Isles were suffering going into the trip, going down in the standing from number two in Metropolitan Division to number five. On November 10, the Isles defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-2. Captain John Tavares was the real star of the night scoring just 36 seconds into the contest to put the Isles on the board. Mikhall Grabovski gave the boys the 2-0 lead all before the five-minute mark into the first period. Joel Ward of San Jose scored the loan goal in the second cutting the Isles lead in half. Defenseman Johnny Boychuk increased the Isles lead 45 seconds into the third period. A goal from Brent Burns gave the Sharks a glimpse of hope, but the Captain came through and secured the win for the Islanders with five seconds left in the game. Next up the Isles faced the LA Kings, but the Isles fell to the crown 2-1. Brock Nelson scored the only goal for the Isles, his fourth goal of the season. The next night the boys came out in full force to defeat the Anaheim Ducks. Walking away the 4-1 win, Brock Nelson netted his fifth goal of the season and put the Isles on the board, in the first period. Going into the second period Cal Clutterbuck increased the Isles lead, just over two minutes later Corey Perry cut the Isles lead in half with a power play goal. The third period was one to remember for Frans Nielsen who scored back-to-back goals. The Isles face the Arizona Coyotes at Barclays Center, tonight. What better way to spend a Monday night then at a hockey game on John Tavares bobble head night? Let’s hope the boys winning mentality continues.
