Kairi Hojo – WWE Mae Young Classic (WhatCulture.com)

Over the past few weeks, WWE has announced some of the competitors for it’s Mae Young Classic tournament. Many names are well known, while others are about to get introduced to a global audience. WWE may have hit the jackpot with one of the competitors in the latest group of women announced via press release

It could be argued that Kairi Hojo is one of the best female wrestlers in the world. Besides Charlotte Flair, I have not heard as much buzz for any woman as I have for the Japanese star. WWE has definitely noticed, as they have locked her up for the MYC. Not only is she going to compete in the tournament, but WWE has signed her as an eventual main roster call up. She even got a new name thanks to the company, Kairi Sane.

Kairi made the announcement of her signing official at a WWE house show at the Sumo Hall in Japan.

Known to have the best elbow drop in the business, Kairi has dominated Stardom since arriving there in 2011 and debuting in 2012. She should be a heavy favorite to at least make it into the semi-finals. From there, who knows what we can expect from the Japanese Pirate.

The other women announced for the tournament should not be forgotten about. These women have made an impact in the business wherever they went.

Evie, given the new name Dakota Kai, was also announced for the tournament via Twitter. The New Zealander has appeared for Shimmer and Stardom over the years, winning tag team gold with the former. Fun Fact: Nia Jax’s first NXT match was against her. Evie will look to prove there is more than meets the eye.

You may know Viper if you watch WCPW, Shimmer or Stardom. She was renamed Piper Vixen for the tournament. A powerhouse, Vixen can be utilized in many ways during the tournament.

Finally, in a qualifying match on NXT, Bianca Belair beat Aliyah. It was an impressive outing by the former college track star and Crossfit competitor. Watch out for Bianca’s powerful spear, as it could cut you in half.

Thirteen competitors are announced so far for the Mae Young Classic. Each name brings something to the table. The Mae Young Classic will begin taping on July 13th and 14th at Full Sail University, with the series starting on the WWE Network on Monday, August 28th.
