Extreme Sports Jess Lockwood Flawless Weekend Leads to Win the PBR Unleash the Beast Monster Energy Buck Off by Jason Cordner January 7, 2019 Jess Lockwood put on a Bull riding show at the world’s most famous arena. Lockwood dazzled the Garden faithful en route to winning the PBR Unleash The Beast Monster Energy Buck Off. It is the second time Lockwood has won the season-opening PBR elite series event at Madison Square Garden. The three-day event considered a major on the PBR tour, wrapped up on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old Lockwood collected 895 world standings points and $118,350. He also won the season-opening major in New York in 2017. He is now the No. 1-ranked rider in the world, 572.5 points ahead of No. 2 Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacaembu, Brazil). The World Champion bull rider is now one of just three riders to win the New York City Major in multiple seasons. Lockwood previously won the event in 2017, the first of four event wins for the Montana rider that season en route to becoming the youngest World Champion in league history. “I was confident coming in (to last season), but there were times when I didn’t want to ride bulls at all,” Lockwood said. “I was pretty disappointed in myself. After the season, I thought to myself, ‘If you’re going to do this, do it right.’ This sport is just too gosh-darn dangerous to do it any other way.” Competing on the big stage in New York, Lockwood started fast sharing first place in the opening round on Friday with an 88.25 point ride for $5,750. He was also second in the 15/15 Bucking Battle. The fans in attendance loved the excitement and drama that the PBR bought to New York City. Not known much for cowboys and bull riding, the atmosphere was beyond electric and very much that of patriotism . If you didn’t get a chance to be in attendance, you can watch all the action from Sunday afternoon on Monday starting at 8 a.m. ET on RidePass.com or via the RidePass mobile app. Next week the PBR heads to Chicago for the Chicago Invitational, January 12-13. Action from Allstate Arena begins on Saturday, January 12 at 6:45 p.m. CT and Sunday, January 13 at 1:45 p.m. CT. Both airing on CBS Sports Network, Round 1 will be seen at 10:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, while Round 2 and the championship round will be televised on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
