FootballJet Up – A Jetkyll & Hyde win by Chris Passarelli December 9, 2019 It wasn’t pretty, especially after a loss last week to the previous winless Cincinnati Bengals team. However, Sam Ficken, the much-maligned kicker for the New York Football Jets, was carried off the field after hitting a game winning field goal to beat the Miami Dolphins 22-21.It was quite an ugly game overall. Jason Sanders of the Dolphins nearly tied an NFL record with seven made field goals. Ryan Fitzpatrick (65 yards) almost had as many rushing yards as Bilal Powell (74 yards), who was filling in for an ill Le’Veon Bell. As we know in the NFL, all that matters is the score at the end of the game.Sam Darnold was decent, throwing for 270 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 20-for-36 attempts. The star of the game was Robbie Anderson, who lit up the wounded Miami secondary for 116 yards and a touchdown. The two plays of the game were actually decided by the referees, surprisingly enough. The first was a controversial touchdown call in the second quarter. Demaryius Thomas caught the ball in the endzone, but it looked to have been wrestled away as he dove into the endzone. The referees deemed that Thomas had crossed the goal line before the ball was ripped out, resulting in a touchdown. The second call determined the game. Miami thought they were off the field on a deflected pass. However, the refs went to the booth under two minutes, and they ruled a defensive pass interference on the play. Sam Darnold drove the Jets down the field and Ficken ended it with a chip shot field goal.Once again it wasn’t pretty but the Jets got it done. The Jets now sit at 5-8 on the season. Their next game is a Thursday Night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Don’t think that they can repeat this effort, but at least they can be happy about this win.
