Jets Look to Get Back on Track, Host Jacksonville

With the Jets losing back to back games for the first time this season, their record has fallen to 4-3 after an impressive 4-1 start. But luckily for the Jets, they have the perfect game coming up on Sunday to get back on track as they host the 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars.

And with the Patriots running away with the AFC East, the Jets need every win they can get to keep pace in the Wild Card race. With that in mind, here are a few things the Jets need to do well on Sunday to come out with a victory.

  1. Turnovers – The Jets are clearly a better team than the Jaguars. And if the Jets play their best against Jacksonville’s best, then there is no doubt that the Jets will win. However, there is only one way that the Jaguars can win this game and that is if the Jets hand it to them. When the Jets played the Redskins on week 6, the Jets lead at halftime was just 13-10. And the only reason it was so close was because the Jets kept turning the ball over. And if the Jets do the same thing this week, then it will be another close game. As long as the Jets play clean Football, they should have very little trouble with winning the game.
  2. Chris Ivory – In the past two games combined, Chris Ivory has a grand total of 58 rushing yards. Ivory had 158 rushing yards against the Redskins alone so he is definitely in a bit of a slump right now. The Jaguars on average allow 103.6 rushing yards per game which is fourteenth best in the NFL. Ivory may have had some trouble against the Raiders last week because they have the second best rushing defense in the NFL, right behind the Jets. So hopefully Ivory can take advantage of the weaker rushing defense and get back to playing the way he was in the first few games this season.
  3. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Watching Ryan Fitzpatrick come out of the game last week against Oakland was not a good sight. Especially because most people do not want to see Geno Smith under center anymore. But luckily, it looks like Fitzpatrick will play this week despite the injury to a ligament in his left thumb. But it will be interesting to see if Fitzpatrick goes out of the shot gun more often than usual this week to prevent further injury to his thumb from the snap. And if his injury hurts his ability to throw the ball, then that will just emphasize Chris Ivory’s roll even more.

Here’s my prediction: Despite Fitzpatrick’s injury, the Jets still should not have too many troubles against a 2-5 Jaguars team. Jets win 24-13.
