Feature Jets Put Three-Year Deal On Table For Ryan Fitzpatrick by Staff Post May 29, 2016 The New York Jets have offered free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a three-year deal that would pay $12 million in the first year. Fitzpatrick has waited all offseason to sign a new deal because he has been holding out for a better offer. Earlier reports said that the offer to the 33-year old quarterback was $8 million. Fitzpatrick earned $3.25 million last year after his trade from the Houston Texans. It is still unclear if the two sides are any closer on agreeing to terms. However, if one thing is clear, it is that Fitzpatrick wants to play football next year. At a recent charity golf outing, Fitzpatrick said, “I want to be playing football next year” after reports said that he would rather retire than play for the Jets current offer. Members of the Jets coaching staff and front office have also been hopeful in the past few months that the two sides would reach a deal. And to give the Jets front office a little bit more incentive to re-sign Fitzpatrick, wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are skipping the voluntary OTA’s in hopes to get their quarterback back. Bowles said as of “right now,” if Fitzpatrick re-signs, the Jets plan to keep four quarterbacks to start the regular season. Bowles also feels that the time away from the team will not hurt Fitzpatrick considering he played in the same system, with the same cast and characters last year. No other teams in the NFL seem to be interested in Fitzpatrick at the moment, so the Jets will most likely be his landing spot.
