MMA Jon Jones to face the undefeated Dominick Reyes for the Light Heavyweight Title in Feb. by Daniel Yanofsky November 22, 2019 There were multiple choices to become contenders for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. One recent performance has seemingly impressed the UFC enough to give one of those men a title shot. It is being reported by BJPenn.com and ESPN that Jon Jones will defend his title on February 8th against Dominick Reyes. Reyes (12-0) was last seen in October when he knocked out Chris Weidman in a round-one squash. The 29-year-old is considered one of the fastest-rising stars in the UFC, winning six fights with the promotion. Prior to beating Weidman, Reyes edged Volkan Oezdemir via split decision back in March. With seven wins via knockout, Reyes will be looking to prove he belongs with the elite. Considered by many to be the MMA Fighter of the Decade, Jon Jones (25-1, 1NC) has been pining for Reyes as his next opponent. The 32-year-old is coming off of two wins in 2019. One was a decisive unanimous decision victory over Anthony Smith at UFC 235 and a hard-fought split decision win against Thiago Santos at UFC 239. While Jones’ personal life has been questioned by drugs, suspensions and other legal issues, he has managed to climb back to the top of the UFC mountain. Controversial as he may be, Jones continues to show just how dominant a fighter he has been since the moment he stepped inside the octagon. Choosing Reyes as the challenger has upset many fans who expected Corey Anderson to fight for the title. Anderson (13-4) is on a four-fight win streak, just recently knocking out prospect Johnny Walker at UFC 244. Instead of a bout between him and Reyes, Dana White has decided to save time for everyone involved. This is the second title fight to be added to the February 8 card. It was previously reported that Valentina Shevchenko would defend her Flyweight Title against Katlyn Chookagian. The card currently does not have a number or a location as the UFC has not officially announced its 2020 schedule yet.
