Baseball Jones And McGregor Help Lead Patriots To 5-1 Win by Somerset Patriots June 3, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (24-18) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (14-27) 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night. The lone run through the first six innings of the contest came in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Matt Fields for a 1-0 advantage. Somerset extended the lead in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Mycal Jones, who would later score on a wild pitch for a 3-0 advantage. Patriots starting pitcher Scott McGregor kept the Bluefish off the board until the eighth inning when Wellington Dotel drove in a run on a base hit that cut the lead to 3-1. McGregor (3-4) allowed just one run in 7.2 innings pitched and three strikeouts to earn the win. “Earlier in the game it was my fastball that was working, but then it got a little erratic so I started throwing the curveball-cutter combination. My curveball was probably the pitch that helped keep them off everything else,” McGregor said. Somerset plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Scott Kelly off the right field wall. Jones, who finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, added an RBI single to center for the 5-1 final. “Ever since I moved to the leadoff spot, I’ve just been trying to put together good at bats, get on base, and get around the bases as much as I can to get into scoring position for the 3-4-5 guys to drive me in. Today was one of those days that I was able to find a few holes to get a few hits and then get into scoring position,” said Jones. Bridgeport starter Mike Antonini (3-5) took the loss allowing a run on six hits in six innings pitched. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday, June 4th for a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
