Boxing Josh Kelly v. Ray Robinson added to loaded June 1st MSG card by Daniel Yanofsky May 13, 2019 With Jarrell Miller off of his fight against Anthony Joshua, Matchroom Boxing needed some sort of hook to entice people to view their June 1st card inside Madison Square Garden. What better way than by finding out who the top super welterweight is? Josh Kelly will make his United States debut, defending his WBA International Welterweight Title against Philadelphia’s Ray Robinson. The fight is expected to be one of the many stacked undercards on the DAZN-streamed event. A top rising star, the 25-year-old Kelly (9-0) is slowing moving up the ranks of the welterweight division, by way of super welterweight. His last fight was a truly remarkable one, knocking down Przemyslaw Runowski three times to retain his title for a second time. With six wins via knockout, Kelly is looking to impress a very vocal New York City crowd. “Things change and titles switch hands but the majority of World titles are held in the US at the moment so I could end up boxing there a lot more in the future,” Kelly stated about facing better competition. “I just take things fight by fight and I never overlook anyone because I’d be doing myself and my opponent an injustice.” Robinson (24-3-1) may be Kelly’s toughest challenge to date. Add the fact that Robinson has face and lost to fighters like Shawn Porter and Egidijus Kavaliauskas, he is as battle tested as they come. Regardless of a controversial loss to Kavaliauskas in March, Robinson has proven he belongs in the ring. Tickets are still available for Joshua v. Ruiz. You can grab them now at Ticketmaster.com, StubHub.com, MSG.com or the MSG box office.
