College Kean Takes Overtime Win Over Rowan at Home, 20-17 by Stephen Ur November 9, 2015 (Via Kean Athletics) The Kean University Cougars hosted the Rowan University Owls in a football game in Union on Saturday afternoon. Rowan was looking to take control of the third place spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with a win over Kean and a Frostburg State University loss. Kean, on the other hand, was looking to tie Rowan for fourth in the second to last week of the season at 6-3. Kean quarterback Charles App threw two touchdowns in the first half, one to Tahj Hammary and one to Jonathon Schmitt, and the Cougars were well on their way to tying Rowan at 6-3 as they held a 14-0 lead at halftime. Kean had 243 total yards while Rowan had only 88 yards. The Cougars punted only four times while the Owls punted six times in the first half. Rowan scored on their first drive of the second half on a Quincy Lambert 1-yard touchdown to make the score 14-7 in favor of Kean. Bobby Barbieri intercepted an App pass, and Rowan was in business at Kean 30 yard line. They tied the game with another 1-yard touchdown, this one from Dante Pinckney, to tie the game at 14. Neither team scored in the final 14:04, and the game went into overtime. Rowan scored the first points of overtime on a 30-yard field goal, and it was Kean’s turn to try and win the game with a touchdown. App scored the game-winning touchdown, running it into the endzone from 14 yards out to give Kean the 20-17 overtime win over Rowan. Both teams are now at a record of 6-3. They are tied for third place in the NJAC standings with two games left to play. Rowan will head back to Glassboro to take on TCNJ on Friday night. Kean will travel to take on Montclair State next Saturday.
