Basketball Kevin Durant to the New York Knicks? Not so Fast by Anthony Khelil October 26, 2018 A billboard outside the illustrious Madison Square Garden has put forward its latest recruiting attempt. The newest effort to entice superstar Kevin Durant involves a billboard featuring a cartoon version of Golden State’s KD alongside Knicks cornerstone Kristaps Porzingis, as the two hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy. In bold blue and orange lettering, the billboard poses the question, “Can you make New York Sports Great Again.” The recruiting effort was paid for by NYCADSCO.com, the same website that paid for a billboard in an effort to recruit Lebron James to the Big Apple. According to Yahoo Sports insider Chris Haynes, the Knicks have a “strong shot” at signing the two-time finals MVP. New Yorker’s drool at the chance of even entertaining the potential of singing Durant, but the Knickerbockers plan might have to be put on hold. Kevin Durant was not impressed. “I don’t really know how to feel about that type of stuff,” Durant said, “It’s cool. No disrespect, but I’m not really impressed with that type of stuff.” The 30-year old Durant has the opportunity to opt out of his contract with Golden State following the season. His next move is unlikely to define his legacy with all that the superstar has already achieved. Durant and the Warriors will face off against the Knicks Friday. It is the Warriors only visit to MSG of the season. Expect Durant to be greeted with a standing ovation. New York may just have a case to lure Durant to the city. Porzingis, if healthy, could become a top-10 player in the NBA. The rookie lottery pick Kevin Knox showed off limitless potential in the summer league. The 20-year old point guard Frank Ntilikina has already proven his worth on the defensive end. The Knicks new coach David Fizdale is popular among players around the league which could also play a role. Not to mention, the Knicks are likely playing their way to another lottery pick this summer. This sounds quite enticing on paper, but can it be enough to bring the former league MVP to NYC? It is hard to tell this early in the season, but Knick fans should remain hopeful. Kevin Durant or not, it seems like the franchise is finally headed in the right direction.
