Keys to Jets Win Over Titans: Contain Mariota, Ride The Hot Hands, Feed Ivory

With a 7-5 record, the New York Jets find themselves right in the heat of a playoff race. With four games remaining, the Jets just have to win three of them to find themselves in the playoffs. This Sunday against the Titans has to be one of those three wins.

A loss would put the Jets in a win out situation. But with two tough divisional games to close out the year, this Sunday’s game against the 3-9 Titans is a must win. With the Jets in search for their third consecutive victory, here are a few things they need to do to accomplish that.

Contain Mariota – Rookie quarterback, Marcus Mariota, is not a dangerous quarterback per say, but he can make some plays. He had 268 passing yards, a 69% on passing attempts, three touchdown passes, 112 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown last week against the Jaguars. And as a team, they put up 42 points. So the Jets cannot take Mariota lightly because he is coming off a really good game. However, Mariota will have a tough time using his legs to extend plays against the Jets defensive line. The Jets secondary still needs to keep an eye on him though.

Ride the Hot Hand – Last week, the combo of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker had really good games. The two totaled 20 receptions, 232 receiving yards, and a touchdown. They both came up huge in a big game. But this weekend’s game is just as important as last week so let’s see if Ryan Fitzpatrick can ride the hot streak and get the ball to those two

Chris Ivory – After struggling for a few weeks, Chris Ivory got a little bit better in the past couple of weeks. He had 47 yards on ten carries against the Giants last week which is nothing spectacular, but it is better than the product from previous weeks. With an average at best run defense, Ivory should look to take advantage of that. And if Ivory can really find his stride again like he did earlier in the season, then the Jets will have a complete package on offense with the receiving core playing well, which would be huge for the stretch run and hopefully into the playoffs.

The Jets have dropped a few games this year against teams they should have beaten. Several people think that this may be one of those “trap games” for the Jets. But I do not see it that way. The Jets played really well against the Dolphins two weeks ago, and they didn’t play too well for the first three quarters last week against the Giants, but they played an incredible fourth quarter and overtime to come away with the victory.

I think the Jets are playing with some extra mojo right now after last week’s win and they will win this Sunday’s game against the Titans as a result.
