Basketball Knicks Fall as Ewing Drops Hints and Jackson Vacays by Renee Washington April 1, 2016 (Jerome Miron via SNY.tv) The New York Knicks (30-46) fell to the Dallas Mavericks (37-38) in a close game 91-89 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Wednesday night. It was a back and forth game on the night. The Knicks outscored the Mavs in the first and third quarter, as Dallas took the other two. Carmelo Anthony finished with a game high 31 points as Derrick Williams chipped in with 15 for the Knicks. With rookie Kristaps Porzingis out nursing a shoulder injury, it is the third start for Williams. Porzingis unfortunately reinjured his shoulder in the game on Monday night versus New Orleans going for a block. The Knicks also lost starting point guard Jose Calderon to a quad injury in the first half and did not return to the game. Point guard J.J Barea finished with 26 points to lead Dallas including the go ahead layup with 49.9 seconds left in the game. He scored 44 in the last two games.Starters Deron Williams and Chandler Parsons missed the game due to injuries. Williams missed his fourth game due to abdominal and groin strains. Parson has been out for two weeks to knee surgery. With the win, the Max move to being tied up in the Western Conference after Utah lost to Golden State. They are now tied with the Jazz and rockets for seventh place. Meanwhile a lot has been going on with the Knicks front office. Former Knicks standout player, Patrick Ewing has been actively showing his interest in coaching his former team. As a player from 1985 to 2000, Ewing led New York to two NBA Final appearances. Although he never won a ring as a player, Ewing is still determined to bring a championship to New York. Patrick Ewing, the all-time leader in games, minutes played, points, rebounds, blocks, rebounds, free throws made, steals, field goals, and Win Shares, is interested in becoming a head coach. He has been an assistant coach since 2002. From 2003-2006 he coached alongside Jeff Van Gundy with the Houston Rockets before working with Stan Van Gundy and the Orlando Magic from 2007 to 2012, and currently works with the Charlotte Hornets as the associate head coach. When the coaching search officially opens in the summer of 2016, Phil Jackson will have his share of interested coaches, including Patrick Ewing. However, for Jackson right now his focus seems to be on vacation. He was recently in Los Angeles for 10 days and lately his social media posts insinuate that he may be at his 60s hideaway, the Woodstock Inn. With two weeks left in the season and the Knicks only at 47 wins over the last two seasons, it seems as though the franchise president is not overly busy scouting the NCAA post season tournaments and D-League games that are going on, including the games right in New York or at Madison Square Garden. Regardless the state in which their president may currently be vacationing, the Knicks are still working to complete their season as best they can. They are currently 13th in the Eastern Conference with two eeks left in the season. Next, the Knicks return to Madison Square Garden to face the Brooklyn Nets. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30p.m. Post Views: 1,308 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Renee Washington Renee is a Staff Writer at DoubleGSports.com with a focus on Temple Men's Basketball and other area sports content.
