On Wednesday morning the New York Knicks reached a deal with small forward Michael Beasley. All of the details haven’t been disclosed yet, but reports indicated that it would likely be a one-year contract. Beasley’s signing comes off a turbulent offseason for the Knicks involving Carmelo Anthony. With Anthony wanting out of New York, Beasley role on the team remains unclear. He has had a solid career, averaging 12.6 points per game along with 4.9 rebounds. At 6’9″, 235 pounds, he would solve the size issue the Knicks would be facing should Anthony leave. Whether or not such a reality comes to term, Beasley could bolster the bench and give the Knicks more depth alongside Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah. With Carmelo’s days numbered in the Big Apple, Knicks fans could wind up seeing Beasley suit up as a starter. No one should expect Beasley to be the savior of New York in Melo’s potential absence. His addition will provide another veteran voice to the young core developing in the Garden. Chances are Kristaps Porzingis, Frank Ntilikina, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are going to be the new big 3 of the Knicks. Beasley will serve as a great role player to the team that can help guide the young guys along. This may not be the signing Knicks fans were looking for (i.e. Kyrie Irving), but it may be a positive move nonetheless.
