Baseball Lakewood Claws Back to Beat Delmarva 4-3 by Scott Mahnken April 20, 2018 The Delmarva Shorebirds jumped on BlueClaws starter Will Stewart for three quick runs in the bottom of the 1st inning during the first of a four-game series. The BlueClaws managed to put one run up in the top of the sixth when Jhailyn Ortiz doubled and crossed the plate to reduce the Shorebirds lead to 3-1. Things changed in the 8th when Daulton Guthrie battled for a 10-pitch base on balls for the BlueClaws. Then Lakewood erupted and got doubles from Ortiz and DH Jake Scheiner, it was Ortiz second double of the game and he came around to score what would be the winning run on Scheiner’s two bagger. Delmarva starter Cameron Bishop gave the Shorebirds 6 strong innings allowing just 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 3. Jonathan Hennigan was credited with his 2nd hold of the young season and Addison Russ continued his clutch pitching to earn his 2nd save and keep his ERA at a spotless 0.00. The Claws Luis Carrasco pitched two scoreless innings to get the win, moving his record to 1-0. Travis Seabrooke took the loss for the Shorebirds dropping his record to 0-1. It was the first home loss of the 2018 season for Delmarva, who’s record dropped to 11-3. The BlueClaws improved their record to 7-7 and have been teetering at the .500 mark most of the season. The BlueClaws made the most of their 8 hits and their last three games have been decided very late in the game, coming off back to back 10 inning affairs against Greensboro. Game two of the four game set see’s Matthias Dietz (2-0) versus the BlueClaws Spencer Howard (0-1). Friday night’s game time is 7:05 under the lights. Lakewood looks to get over the .500 mark after starting the season 1-4.
