Las Vegas 51’s Can’t Finish Sweep on Reno; Bounce Back vs. River Cats

Las Vegas 51’s Can’t Finish Sweep on Reno; Bounce Back vs. River Cats

The Las Vegas 51’s continue to surprise the Pacific Coast League as they battle the El Paso Chihuahuas for the first place spot in the Pacific Southern.

On Friday, the team had a chance to finish a sweep of the Reno Aces, the team’s intrastate rivals, and bring their winning streak to 7 games. It was the end of a four-game series that saw a 51’s victory in the first three games. The series started on Tuesday with a 6-3 victory, followed by 12-10 win on Wednesday and 8-6 victory on Thursday. However, Friday wouldn’t see the same results. The team struggled with allowing runs, losing the game 9-4. Despite the loss, a 3-1 series win is always worth taking home.

Had Las Vegas finished the sweep, it would’ve marked the first time Reno was swept at their home field since June 1-4 of 2013.

Ultimately, it was Reno’s Kyle Jensen that was the difference maker in the game. He finished with two home runs, which were his 13th and 14th on the season, and also chipped in 5 RBI’s for the Aces. His RBI total on the month is 36, which is a Reno record for the most in a month.

Las Vegas 51’s vs. Sacramento River Cats

The 51’s didn’t hold their heads, though. They began a new four-game series vs. the Sacramento River Cats on Saturday at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. Looking to go on another winning streak, the team showed up to play on Saturday.

Headed into the bottom of the third inning, the 51’s held a 4-2 victory after a 4-run first inning. However, that 3rd inning would be key for Las Vegas. They ended up scoring a total of 7 runs in the inning, taking an 11-2 lead into the fourth inning. They would never look back, taking home a 16-8 victory over the River Cats.

The story of the night was Roger Bernadina, who sent two balls over the home run fence. The first came in the 1st inning, while the second one came in the 5th. He ended with 5 RBI’s. Johnny Monell also had a home run, which came in the third inning. It was Monell’s 10th home run on the season. He finished the game with 3 RBI’s.

The 51’s continue their four-game homestand vs. Sacramento on Sunday, June 26th. The game starts at 12:05 PM and will be the second-to-last day game they have at home this season. Games 3 and 4 will occur on Monday and Tuesday, before a day off on Wednesday.
