Baseball Late Rally Falls Short as BlueClaws Fall to Hagerstown by Staff Post June 16, 2016 A late Lakewood BlueClaws rally fell short Wednesday night when Deivi Grullon grounded into a game-ending double play, enabling the Hagerstown (Md.) Suns to hold on for a 6-5 win in South Atlantic League play at FirstEnergy Park. Grenny Cumana opened the bottom of the ninth with a home run off Trey Lambert to pull Lakewood within 6-5. However, after a strikeout and a single, Grullon grounded into a 5-4-3 twin killing as the BlueClaws were unable to complete the comeback and the sweep of the Suns, the Washngton Nationals’ low Class A farm club. Lakewood (26-39) saw its five-game home winning streak end while Hagerstown improved to 41-25. Lambert earned his first save of the season. Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Grullon. Lakewood went ahead 2-0 in the third when Damek Tomscha hit into a double play. The Suns replied with three runs–all with two out–in the fourth. Edwin Lora and Telmito Agustin plated runs with doubles and Victor Robles hit an RBI single. Lakewood starter Franklyn Kilome pitched four innings, allowing three runs (all earned) while walking three and striking out four. Hagerstown scored runs off Skylar Hunter and Sutter McLouhlin for a 5-2 lead. Tomscha singled home two runs in the seventh and the Suns added a run in the eighth, taking a 6-4 lead. Jefry Rodriguez (6-2) earned the win, allowing four runs in 6 2/3 innings. Cumana, Tromp and Tomscha each had two hits. Lakewood, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, will open a four-game series when it hosts the Kannapolis (N.C.) Intimidators, a Chicago White Sox affiliate, Thursday night at 7:05. Drew Anderson (1-1) will start for Lakewood. He will be opposed by Brandon Easterling (3-1) on Thirsty Thursday.
