Lehigh Valley Phantoms to Host Ice Tech For A Day Contest

One lucky fan of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms will get the opportunity to find out what it takes to get the ice ready for a hockey game.

The Phantoms announced on their website on Friday the “Ice Tech for a Day” contest. One lucky fan will get the opportunity to help paint and prepare the ice for the 2015-2016 American Hockey League season.

On the team’s website, Phantoms’ Executive Vice President, Chris Porreca said, “When the ice starts to go in, that is when you know hockey season is right around the corner. You can feel the chill in the air and we want to give one lucky fan the chance to experience that up close and personal.”

The first game action that the new ice will see will be on September 21, when the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom the Phantoms are the AHL affiliate to, take on the New York Islanders in a preseason matchup. The game will also mark the first National Hockey League game in Lehigh Valley.

Following a pair of pre-season games on October 3 and 4, the regular season is slated to faceoff on October 10. This season will mark the team’s second season in the Lehigh Valley and the 20th in the history of the franchise.

Established in 1996 in Philadelphia, the team played at the Spectrum before relocating to Glen Falls, NY for five seasons in 2009. Last season the Phantoms moved out of the Adirondacks to the PPL Center in Allentown, PA for their inaugural season in the Lehigh Valley.

The contest runs until September 9th at 5:00 PM and fans can enter for free online at httpss://www.facebook.com/PPLCenter?sk=app_14310327574807.
