Lizards lose back-to-back weekend series to Bayhawks

The New York Lizards had a tough weekend, dropping both games in a home-and-home “double-header” with the Chesapeake Bayhawks.  The two losses all but eliminates the Lizards from playoff contention, dropping them to an ugly 3-7 record.

Game One on Saturday was a defensive affair, with both teams scoring just 20 goals at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD.  Rob Pannell had three goals, including a two-pointer.  Ryan Walsh had three points total and two goals, and Nick Galasso, Steven Romano and Peter Welch all contributed a goal as well.

Austin Kaut made 18 saves.  Unfortunately, both teams were chasing the ball all night, as the Lizards had 18 turnovers and the Bayhawks had 14.

Sunday night’s game was much more one-sided, as the Lizards suffered one of the worst losses in franchise history.  In front of the home crowd at Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University, the Lizards were embarrassed by the score of 24-7.

Nick Aponte scored two goals, Dylan Molloy had a goal and an assist, as did Justin Reh.  Ryan Walsh, Nick Galasso and John Daniggelis scored one goal each.  Austin Kaut and Brian Carrigan split the net in game two, with Kaut making six saves and Carrigan making three.

The Lizards’ season is essentially over after these two losses, so the next few games will be for pride.  Their next contest is Saturday, August 10th against the Dallas Rattlers in Texas.  That game starts at 8 PM.
