Long Island Ducks Take Two in Three Game Series Against Maryland Blue Crabs

The Long Island Ducks were in Southern Maryland this weekend facing the Blue Crabs in a three-game series. Long Island was able to claim two of the three victories during the series.

Friday night was the opener of the series, which heated up quickly in the second inning. The Blue Crabs Michael Snyder sent a solo blast to left field and an RBI from D’Arby Myers put the Ducks behind 2-0. Long Island’s offense responded in the seventh when Cody Puckett drove in a run and a throwing error by the Blue Crabs allowed them to tie the game up. Long Island was able to top the Blue Jays when Mike Dowd hit an RBI single followed by Matt Wessinger RBI double. Ducks top the Blue Crabs 4-2.

Saturday night was a quite evening for both teams. Both were unable to put runs on the board through five innings. The Ducks struck first in the sixth inning with a RBI single to center field from Tyler Colvin. Blue Crabs later responded with a two-run home run from Jamar Walton. It was the only runs scored throughout the evening. Starter Tim Sexton (ERA 6.37) tossed for the Blue Crabs seven innings, allowing four hits, a walk, and strike out six. Long Island’s John Brownell suffered the loss after giving up the two-run homer, a walk, and 10 strikeouts over eight innings of work. Blue Crabs took it 2-1.

Sunday night was an explosion of offense for the Long Island Ducks and it started off early. Duck’s Fehlandt Lentini homered to left-center field on the first pitch. The Ducks were able to jump ahead another two more runs due to a wild pitch and a error for Blue Crab’s Scott Scnodgress (ERA 5.68). Later, in the second the Ducks were able to tack on three more runs with the help of Three more runs in the second on consecutive RBI singles from Delta Cleary Jr., Ruben Gotay and Cody Puckett. The Blue Crabs were able to score two-runs in the bottom of the second against starter Darin Downs (ERA 4.40). Long Island’s offense poured on the runs with a RBI single by Mike Blanke, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Wessinger, later a two-run homer to right from Ruben Gotay, a sac fly by Wessinger, and a RBI single by Lentini. Long Island was able to tie a season high with 20 hits in a ball game, while everyone was able to reach base at least once during the game. The Ducks won the final game of the series 14-2.

 

The Long Island Ducks (27-22) are now tied for first place in the Liberty Division with the Somerset Patriots. They will start a three-game series at home against the New Britain Bees. For tickets please call (631) 940-TIXX.
