Other Sports Lucha Underground Season 2 Opening Episodes by Staff Post February 8, 2016 The wrestling world has been patiently awaiting the return of one the fastest rising promotions in history. The first season brought non stop acrobatic action and showcased wrestlers from all over the world to an American audience. It helped to feed an hunger that many fans have had for awhile, the need to see fresh, new talent. Every week we had the luxury of being able to tune into a wrestling show that served up a platter of Lucha Libre style wrestling and had your eyes popping out their sockets from all the fast paced moves. So, because of the cult like following that Lucha Underground has received, I was praying that the second season would be just as entertaining as the first. I am happy to report that not only did they come back strong but they have me waiting on pins and needles for the next episode. I decided to wait for two episodes to go by to give my opinion on the beginning of the second season. So here it is… My season 2, Episodes 1-2 review! Episode One: From the opening of this episode, its quiet clear that this season will take a darker turn. You start off the episode seeing Vampiro sitting in room. You realize that he is in a mental institution, speaking to a therapist. Vampiro promises to not get into any violent confrontations when he leaves the institution. Vampire insist that he has changed and just wants to do his job as a commentator. Catrina and Mil Muertes have also contributed to the darker turn in Lucha Underground, seeing as they are now in control of the promotion. The first match of the night was Fenix vs King Cuerno. This match was for the Gift of the Gods championship. Fenix showed great skills in the match. He worked hard to stay focused on his opponent, while his arch nemesis Mil Muertes was seated ringside. Sadly, Fenix was not able to prevail in the match up. King Cuerno is now the current Gift of the Gods champion. Accepting the deal from Catrina, the trio team of Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico fought it out, for the chance to be a number 1 contender for the Lucha Underground championship. The winner would face Mil Muertes later on in the night. I enjoyed the conflict between the team. Being torn between the bond that they have as a tag team, but also giving everything they could to win this match. In the end, Ivelisse was victorious. The show of support from her tag team partners was nice to see. They couldn’t support as much as they wanted because Catrina bought on the disciples of death to basically kidnap Angelico and Son of Havoc to leave Ivelisse alone in her quest. Lucha Underground Championship Match: Ivelisse ve Mil Muertes The first inter gender heavyweight title match in the history of Lucha Underground was impressive. Ivelisse did a great job of holding her own with her submission holds that she successful put Mil Muertes in. However, the size and power of Mil Muertes proved to be too much for Ivelisse. The victory was short lived because Pentagon Jr. attacked Mil Muertes and broke his arm. I’m sure that Mil Muertes has something sinister planned for Pentagon Jr. Episode Two: Opening of episode 2 Prince Puma made it clear that he has no desire to work with Pentagon Jr and would never be a puppet to him. A feud in the future, between the two is definitely brewing. Johnny Mundo ve Killshot Johnny Mundo showed an aggressive offensive and a bit of arrogance coming into the season. He is all business, showing that he is ultimate goal is to take that title from Mil Muertes. Killshot won over many fans in this match with his quick and effective comebacks. Ultimately, Johnny Mundo was victorious in this bout. A pre taped video, showing Sexy Star still being held captive by Marty Martinez was shown during the episode. Marty continues to hint towards him having a sister and soon Sexy Star meeting her. I’m not sure how I feel about the storyline, but I won’t think poorly of it yet. The Mack vs PJ Black I was impressed with The Mack’s athletic, fast paced in ring ability. You wouldn’t expect that from a guy of his size. I think he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in the promotion. PJ Black, formerly known as Justin Gabriel in WWE, debuted in this match.I think with time, he could win the audience over and become a major talent in Lucha Underground. The Mack took home the win, but both man certainly brought their A game. A vignette showcasing a new edition to the roster followed the match. A dangerous woman by the name of Kobra Moon. I’m looking forward to seeing her feline like style in the ring. The Disciples vs Prince Puma and Pentagon Jr. Pentagon Jr. and Prince Puma were not gelling along well in the beginning of the match. Each looking out for themselves, instead of working as a team. It also didn’t help that they were in a handicap match, so it was difficult them to get a leg up in the match. Prince Puma and Pentagon Jr. miraculously pulled off the win. However, Prince Puma was not happy with Pentagon Jr. getting the pin. A scuffle took place, Pentagon Jr tried to break Prince Puma’s arm but Puma countered. The heat between these two is far from being extinguished. The last visual of the night was that of the legend… Rey Mysterio. I cannot wait to see what he brings to Lucha Underground. Ugh, next Wednesday can’t get here sooner. This season so far has knocked my socks off. The feuds that are building up are hitting the mark and the time length of the episodes doesn’t drain you. The use of different talent on each episode allows you to have a diverse roster. You also don’t get tired of seeing the same matches and wrestlers showcased every week. Every one gets a fair shot. What a great product. What a great time to be a wrestling fan. Long live Lucha Underground!!
