Baseball Luis Severino out at least 6 more weeks with lat strain by Jesse Natale April 10, 2019 More bad news for the New York Yankees, as their ace pitcher, Luis Severino, is kept on the shelf for at least six more weeks. After receiving an MRI in New York on Tuesday, it was revealed that Luis had a Grade 2 lat strain on his right side. Luis was already on the injured list with rotator cuff inflammation, and it is possible that during his rehab over the past two weeks, the lat strain was developed. The team reported that during these six weeks, Severino will not take part in any throwing at all. The new injury is a concern for the Yankees, as they are already waiting upon CC Sabathia’s return, and are currently depending on young arms, Domingo German, and Jonathan Loaisiga; who have filled in nicely for the Yanks thus far. Despite having Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton at the top of their rotation, the loss of their young ace Luis Severino is a huge blow for the club, as the season continues to develop. Luis Severino went 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA last season, and signed a four-year, $40 million contract extension earlier this spring. The 25-year-old power pitcher will look to make a slow and steady recovery from these two significant injuries over the next couple of months; as the Yankees try to hold off their American League East rivals, the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays for the time being.
