Lynn, Happ bring stability to inconsistent Yankees’ rotation

Lance Lynn and JA Happ have been a breath of fresh air in what’s become a very inconsistent Yankees rotation. CC Sabathia has been great but is now on the 10 day DL. Luis Segerino is still the ace of this staff but his starts recently have been alarmingly bad. Masahiro Tanaka is what he is at this point; A talented pitcher who can either pitch a two hit shutout or give up four solo home runs in the first three innings.

The two veterans have been welcome additions to the staff in their most needed time. Both have pitched excellent since their debuts earlier this month. Happ’s last start was a beauty against the Texas Rangers, pitching six innings of three run ball. Lynn’s was nearly as good, going five strong against the Rangers with a good mix of power and finesse on his pitches. He left only giving up one run. Lynn has been the Yankees’ best starter over the past two weeks, giving up only one earned run in nearly 17 innings pitched.

Happ and Lynn weren’t brought in here to become the aces of the staff. They were brought in to bring stability to the back end of the Yankees rotation. They’ve more than exceeded expectations and being able to rely on them come playoff time is essential.

Both pitchers have a plethora of playoff experience; Lynn was used as both a starter and reliever with the St. Louis Cardinals. Happ has been on many teams but most recently was on playoff teams for the Blue Jay’s. He’s probably most remembered for his time with the Phillies.

The Yankees have a lot of work to do before they’re considered a favorite come playoff time. What doesn’t need to be worked on is the consistent outings of JA Happ and Lance Lynn. They’re everything the Yankees wanted and more.
