New head coach Mike Rice has made a splash before even coaching his first game with the Rutgers basketball program. He is already racking up victories.

Rutgers has landed two of the areas best prospects in Kadeem Jack and Myles Mack. The Mack and Jack combo could help bring success to the men’s basketball program at Rutgers University.

The signature recruit of the 2011 class for Rutgers will be Kadeem Jack, the 6-9 power forward from Rice High School in New York. Jack is rated the No. 7  power forward and the nation’s 33rd overall prospect.

Jack will play this upcoming season at South Kent Prep School in Connecticut before joining Rutgers for the 2011-12 season.  He is currently playing in an international tournament in Turkey for a New York City Nike All-Star team.

The forward averaged 16.9 points per game for Rice High last season and chose Rutgers over Arkansas, Miami, and Xavier. Big time programs like Duke, North Carolina, and UCLA had also shown interest in Jack of late.

While now having a power forward to play inside, Rutgers coach Mike Rice went out and got a true point guard. Rutgers has lacked a true point to run the offense the last few years. Myles Mack looks the part and could fill that void.

Previously Mack had been a member of the Paterson Catholic High School team, but since the school closed it’s doors he will play for St. Anthony’s this season.  The 23rd ranked point guard in the class of 2011, Mack averaged 14.8 points and 2.8 steals last season.

Some scouts think this get is just as big for Rutgers as Jack was.

“He’s outstanding. He’s as good a get as Kadeem Jack,” said Steve Keller, a talent scout from The National Recruiting Report based in Neptune. “They got the guard they wanted and they got the big kid they wanted within 48 hours.”

Mack chose Rutgers over Miami, Connecticut, Penn State, St. John’s, and Providence, among many other interested schools.

Mack and Jack join Mack’s former Paterson Catholic teammate Derrick Randall as well as Malick Kone on the 2011 recruiting class for Rutgers and head coach Mike Rice.

Rutgers Men’s Basketball have a mighty hill to climb, but make no mistake about it, they are on the climb.
