Marist Falls to Dayton 59-31 On Senior Day

On Saturday, Marist hosted PFL opponent Dayton ( 8-2, 7-1 PFL) and it was also senior day where they honored their seniors on the team. Marist honored all seven of their seniors before the game as they have played their last and final home game at Tenney Stadium. The list of the Seniors for the Red Foxes are: (Safety) Mike Marston, (Kicker/Punter) Mike Macaccrone, (Safety) Carter Odenweller, (Cornerback) Cameron Gibson, (Safety) Andre Nettles, (Offensive Lineman) Ryan Schneider, and (Offensive Lineman) Dan Rice.

The game for the Red Foxes did not go their way as they fell to Dayton 59-31 in the home finale. Dayton gained a season high 530 total yards in the Marist lost and had 332 rushing yards on the ground. Quarterback Alex Jeske had 377 yards and six touchdowns in this game and was 13 of 20 passing throwing for 198 yards through the air with two touchdowns and a INT. Jeske would also get it done on the ground as he rushed for 179 yards in 18 attempts and would score four more touchdowns on the ground. Red-shirt quarterback Anthony Francis got the start in front of the usual starter Mike White. Francis would lead the Red Foxes all the way down the field in their first drive connecting with Juston Christian (So.) for a 35-yard completion which would set up a 41-yard field goal for Mike Maccarone (Sr.). Cameron Stubbs would return a kickoff 89 yards to the Marist five yard line to set up a touchdown run by Alex Jeske.

Marist would cut the lead to 24-17 after a 78-yard touchdown run the the Junior Quarterback Mike White. On the next ensuing drive, Dayton would not look back as they would go up by a two score lead as their quarterback Jeske would score again. Mike White (Jr.) threw for 248 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in this game. White would also run for 110 yards in this game too. Marcellus Calhoun led in receiving with 94 yards receiving and would score a touchdown on the ground to cut the Dayton lead to 31-24.

Marist tried to make a comeback in the game, but fell short after the Marist special teams gave up another long kick return from Dayton’s Stubbs this time he returned it for 90 yards for a touchdown. That sealed the game and sealed the Red Foxes seniors chances at gaining a senior day win.

The Red Foxes fell to 5-5 overall, 5-2 in PFL and Dayton improved to 9-2 overall, 7-1 in PFL. Marist will travel to Jacksonville next week as they set to take on the Jacksonville Dolphins in their last game of the season.
