Martin Brodeur accepts Assistant General Manager position with Blues

Brodeur was part of three Stanley Cup Championships with New Jersey.

Former New Jersey Devils net minder Martin Brodeur been named as the Assistant General Manager of the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday May 20.

The Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Doug Armstrong, announced that he and Brodeur, had agreed on a three year deal naming him the Assistant GM. Brodeur, 43, joined the Blues on December 2, 2014, after 21 seasons in the Devils organization. Following a seven game stint in St. Louis, he announced his retirement on January 29, moving upstairs into the Blues front office as a Senior Advisor to the General Manager.

Over the 21 years in New Jersey, Brodeur was part of three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships. He has won the Vezina Trophy four times, holds the all-time wins record for regular season wins at 691, shutouts at 125, games played of 1266 and minutes played 74,438. He is also first in playoff starts of 204 and playoff shutouts of 24, while second in post season victories with 113.

When the Devils hired Ray Shero, to replace Lou Lamoriello as General Manager earlier this month, Brodeur told Northjersey.com that he believed they were heading in a different direction, and he felt best to take a step back and go elsewhere to begin his post playing career. On the Blues website, Brodeur told the team, that getting into management following his days on the ice had been in the back of his mind as something he had hoped to achieve.
