College MBB: Hall routs St. Johns, looks forward to Creighton by Staff Post January 28, 2016 (Catalina Fragoso – Double G Media) The Seton Hall men’s basketball team defeated St. Johns 79-60 in front of a quiet crowd at the Prudential Center on Wednesday night. Leading the way for the Hall were sophomores Isaiah Whitehead, who had a game-high 19 points, and Angel Delgado, who finished with a double-double and season-highs in points with 15 and rebounds with 17. The Pirates improved their record to 14-6 and are now 4-4 in BIG EAST play. Khadeen Carrington finished with 11 points and a team-high five assists. Ismael Sanogo added eight points and seven rebounds, while Desi Rodriguez had eight points and six boards of his own. Christian Jones led St. John’s with 15 points while Kassoum Yakwe posted eight points and 10 boards off the bench. St. John’s rattled off eight unanswered points to take an 18-10 lead at the 10:07 mark of the first half but the Pirates found their rhythm in the latter part of the opening period, erupting to score 24 of the last 32 points heading into the locker room. Five different Pirates scored during an ensuing 12-4 run, a stretch that ended in a Whitehead triple that evened the score at 22-22 with 5:31 to go before the break. From that point on, the Red Storm shot 1-of-11 from the field and committed four turnovers in the remainder of the half while Whitehead and Rodriguez combined for nine points over the last five minutes to help SHU seize control for good. The Pirates will travel to Omaha to wrap up the season series with Creighton on Saturday, in a crucial BIG EAST matchup January 30. Start-time is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
