Baseball McCutchen, Phillies Agree to Three-Year Deal Outfielder agrees to three-year, $50 million deal with Philadelphia. by Gregg Snyder December 11, 2018 Free-agent outfielder Andrew McCutchen is set to return to the Keystone State, but not with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran has agreed to a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. The news came out of the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The deal is pending a physical. The agreement is for three years, $50 million, with a fourth year option. McCutchen, 32, split the 2018 season with the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, batting .255 with 20 homers and 65 RBI. While not quite the dominant force he once was, McCutchen can still provide pop in the Phillies lineup. The Phillies now have an abundance of outfielders, providing them options. They could turn around and look to deal any of Odubel Herrera, Nick Williams, Aaron Altherr, Dylan Cozens, and Roman Quinn. Philadelphia had been seeking to add to their outfield depth and had been linked to star free agent Bryce Harper. Earlier this off-season, the Phillies acquired shortstop Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners. Philadelphia believes they can win now and are adding some pieces to fit that mentality. They’ve been rumored to be a favorite to land SS/3B Manny Machado. McCutchen is a career .287 hitter and has hit double-digit homers in all ten of his Major League seasons.
