Hockey Megna Nets as Rangers Win by Staff Post January 6, 2016 Jayson Megna made quite the first impression for the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, debuting to a goal and an assist as the Rangers defeated the Dallas Stars 6-2. It was a night where almost everything was clicking for the Rangers, who looked as good as they had all season in the victory. The Rangers had quite an eventful night, with the Megna points, a couple of big Derek Stepan goals, a three assist night for Rick Nash, and a winning coaches challenge. Stepan opened the scoring at 1:56 of the first period, and when Dallas tied it up about 11 minutes later, it took the Rangers just 18 seconds to respond as Keith Yandle turned and a fired a puck on net to break the deadlock. This was a sign of things to come for the Rangers. Every time it looked like Dallas was going to gain some momentum, the tide turned back in the Rangers’ favor. It started with the Yandle goal, then when Dallas went on a power play early in the third with a chance to cut it to a one score game, Nash and Stepan combined to create a shorthanded goal, giving the Rangers a 4-1 lead. The Rangers would tally again to make it 5-1 and looked like it was done and dusted. Then Dallas stormed back. The Stars got one goal back, making it 5-2, and then seemed to have made it 5-3. However, Alain Vigneault challenged, claiming that the Stars were offsides prior to the goal being scored. It turned out AV was correct and the goal was disallowed; just moments later, the Rangers notched one more goal to make it 6-2. And that would finally be that. This was a big win for a Rangers team who needs to gather momentum before their big clash with division rival Washington on Saturday afternoon.
