Baseball Mets add Al Leiter and John Franco to front office by Jesse Natale March 5, 2019 The Mets have added former players Al Leiter and John Franco to their front office. Mets general manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, stated that their purpose will consist of, “A lot of player development with us, they’re going to be getting to know our pitchers in the minor leagues, they’re going to help them mentally be able to prepare for what it’s like to succeed in the major league level, let alone in New York.” Brodie also went on to say that Al and John will be assisting with talent evaluation as well. Al Leiter played seven years with the New York Mets, collecting 95 wins with an ERA of 3.42. Al also helped lead the Mets to their World Series appearance back in 2000. The Mets faithful John Franco played a solid 14 years with the club. John entered New York in 1990 and finished at the age of 43 in 2004. During that time, John appeared in 695 games, stacking up 276 saves with an ERA of just 3.10. Brodie continues to bring aboard valuable assets to the Mets organization in order to help develop and obtain high level athletes.
