Mets Planning To Unveil A Tom Seaver Statue

According to WFAN’s Mike Francesa, the New York Mets plan to unveil a Tom Seaver Statue this summer.

This season marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 Miracle Mets, led by the franchise, Tom Seaver winning the World Series. Francesa said that the tribute has been in the works for quite some time and it’s not in response to Thursday’s announcement that the Hall of Fame pitcher has been diagnosed with dementia and is retiring from public life.

Seaver was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame with 98.84% of the vote in 1992. This was the highest percentage until Ken Griffey Jr. was inducted in 2016. Seaver played 20 seasons in the major leagues (1967 – 1986) and won three Cy Young awards. He is considered the greatest pitcher of his generation and one of the all time greats.

It is unknown at this time what point this season the statue will be unveiled and the Mets have yet to make an official statement.
