Mike Atkinson named head coach of Seton Hall Prep hockey

Former Danbury Whaler, Mike Atkinson, was named head coach of the Seton Hall Prep varsity hockey team.

Seton Hall Prep Athletic Director, Larry Baggitt, announced the appointment of Atkinson as Head Varsity Ice Hockey Coach on Monday May 11.

Atkinson, played for Seton Hall Prep during the 2000-2001 season, before his family moved to the New England area the following year. He then played at the Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut before going on to play for Quinnipiac University.

After college, Atkinson pursued his dreams of playing professionally for the Utah Grizzlies, of the ECHL, followed by the Fayetteville FireAntz, of the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Danbury Whalers, of the Federal Hockey League.

Currently he is serving as the head coach for Team New Jersey in the USAH Atlantic District Player Development Program and the assistant coach to the New Jersey Devils Quebec PeeWee International Team. He also serves as the AAA level head coach and Director of Player Development for the New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club.
