College Mitch Richmond, NBA Hall of Famer, Joins St. John’s Basketball Coaching Staff by Staff Post October 7, 2015 from turner.comMitch Richmond will join Chris Mullin on the St. John’s coaching staff. On Tuesday, Mitch Richmond joined the St. John’s men’s basketball staff. Richmond is a Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer, a 6-time NBA All-Star and a five-time All-NBA selection. He will serve as a special assistant to what could already elite staff; one of the best in the country. This staff includes a blend of NBA and collegiate experience who are at the top of their craft. Richmond played 14 years in the NBA with the Warriors, Kings, Wizards, and Lakers. His number is retired by the Kings after playing seven seasons with them. He amounted 20,947 points in his career and was apart of the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta where the U.S. took home a gold medal. Mullin said of Mitch Richmond, “He has tremendous basketball insight, a vision for the game and a passion to share his knowledge. Obviously, his experience in different roles throughout his career as a player, scout and mentor will have an impact in many area.” This staff now includes two Hall of Famer in Richmond and Mullin who only played 3 seasons together in the NBA; however, they developed a connection because of their mutual passion for the game. Mullin said on his former teammate, “He had such an impact on my career and life that it felt much longer. Mitch has this positive energy about him that is contagious.” Richmond will assist with team activities, plan practice, and analyze film. He will also be involved in developing strategy and serving as an ambassador for the basketball program’s University functions. Richmond’s resume speaks for itself as over the course of his NBA career, he averaged 21 points per game, including 39% from downtown. He also took home All-Star Game MVP in 1995. He will bring valuable expertise to this team of freshman and transfers students. It will be an interesting season this year and so far looks like it will be promising.
