MMA Pro League results: Team Pennsylvania dominates Team New Jersey at inaugural event

When a new organization forms, the first event is always the most important. For years, MMA Pro League President Mark Taffet understood the importance of letting reality beat expectations. That was his mantra at HBO. When the MMAPL made its debut this past Saturday, nobody knew what to expect. Luckily, all expectations were crushed.

At the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City in New Jersey, Team Pennsylvania crushed Team New Jersey 14-6.

From the opening bell al the way to nights end, Team PA would not back down. The encouragement and coaching from Coach Daniel Gracie, along with various skilled athletes, proved to be too much for Dan Miller’s Team NJ. Said Gracie:

“The way we won showed me a lot about my team. We won decisively and showed the type of performance that I’ve come to expect from my guys. MMA needs innovation and something new to excite the fans and help bring the masses to our sport. I think MMA Pro League and this team concept is exactly what will help bring that added attention and take this sport to the next level.”

Opening up the card, Team Pennsylvania’s Joseph Penafiel (2-0) beat Turpal Khamzayev (0-2) via unanimous decision. That win provided team PA with three points, and they never really looked back after that.

Throughout the night, it became clear that Team New Jersey were not the favorites. A bout by Zedekia Montanez (4-2) and Mike Pagano (0-2) stole the show, with the former coming out the winner for Team Pennsylvania.

Team NJ had one shining moment throughout the night, and that was when there was nothing left to fight for. Kevin Sears (8-4), beat Team PA’s Ahmed Samir (1-1) via unanimous decision. While it didn’t mean much, momentum is always key for any fighters. Sears definitely earned that paycheck.

With the first event over with, we can move on towards the future. The MMAPL will look to expand to a variety of areas across the United States, in search of that one true MMA Pro League champion.
