Monday Man Cave: Pro Bowl Edition

Welcome to the latest installment, of the Monday  ManCave. Super Bowl 50 is set. Sad we have to wait two weeks until then. In the meantime , we have a  full week of sports and trending pop culture to dive into. The Spurs and Warriors will meet for the first time this season . What will the fallout be from the Royal Rumble? Can the Cavs get back on track? Who will win the Pro Bowl ? Team Rice or Team Irvin?Sit back ,relax and let’s take a look at this week’s must see events in sports and pop culture.

Monday Night Raw – 8pm: USA Network: After everything that happened last night at the Royal Rumble, it’s safe to say the  Road To Wrestlemania, is well underway. With the Rumble in the rear view, the roster now sets their eyes on Dallas, with a pit-stop in Cleveland for WWE’s Fast Lane . For the first time since 2009 ,Triple H is the World Heavyweight Champion. Roman Reigns and Alberto Del Rio have rematch clauses that must be fulfilled, Sasha Banks made a statement with a return at the Rumble. The New Day and Dean Ambrose need new challengers for their respective titles, and A.J. Styles has yet to offer an official statement on why he chose the WWE?

San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors- 10:30pm  NBA TV:  Finally, the two best teams in the league square off .Now, the defending champion Golden State Warriors finally get to face the team chasing them in the Western Conference in a Monday night showdown anticipated for months pitting the past two NBA title teams. The Warriors have won  38 straight home games. The Spurs will be without Tim Duncan in this one. These two heavyweights are only separated by 2 games in the standings. Either way ,this is a  can’t miss game.

Lucifer- 9pm -Fox : The series, which begins on Monday night, stars Tom Ellis in the title role. For reasons delineated only flimsily, at least in the early going, Lucifer, a fallen angel, has left hell and taken up residence in Los Angeles, where he owns a nightclub and disdains many of the rules of human society. Adapted by Tom Kapinos from a Vertigo comic series in which Old Scratch similarly owns and operates a bar but doesn’t also solve mortal crimes, Lucifer arrives with all of the superficial flash you’d expect from a Len Wiseman-directed pilot. If your a fan of the comic, you will love the pilot. I saw it first hand, at last year’s New York Comiccon.

Thursday Night  College Basketball- #3 Iowa vs #9 Maryland   7pm  ESPN: If Maryland’s going to be a top seed in the NCAA Tournament as most projected, the Terps have some work to do in the second half of their Big Ten slate. At face value, Maryland’s 17-3 record, national profile and RPI ranking — No. 9 according to ESPN — appear good enough to snag a higher seed. But the Terps have yet to claim a win against a top-50 RPI team, losing at North Carolina and Michigan State in their two best opportunities to bolster their resume. That makes Thursday’s game against third ranked Iowa — a No. 1 seed in CBSSports’ projections — a virtual must-win if they’re going to move back into the discussion for a top-two seed. For the fourth straight week, the Hawkeyes jumped multiple spots, this time ascending six rungs to No. 3 in the nation.

Friday –  The Finest Hours – in theaters:  based on true events, including what many knowledgeable people believe to be the greatest small craft rescue at sea in the history of the United States Coast Guard. The rescue of 32 men from the SS Pendleton, a tanker that had been torn in two in hurricane force wind off the coast of Chatham on Cape Cod, on February 18, 1952.Boatswain Mate First Class, Bernie Webber (played well by Chris Pine) led three men in a 36 foot motorized lifeboat to the aid of the Pendleton. If you believe that heroism can be displayed in the line of duty, by people you would never suspect were capable of it, well, you’ll love, The Finest Hours.

NBA Saturday Night  – San Antonio  vs Cleveland Cavaliers-8pm ABC: The first Spurs vs Cavs game was amazing. Using a dominant fourth quarter after trailing most the game, the Spurs toppled Cleveland 99-95 at the AT&T Center. The Cavs, are  0-3 against the two western conference  powerhouses. They are also 0-2 against the Bulls. Expect the Cavs, to be focus and ready for prime time.

Sunday Night -NFL 2016 Pro Bowl- 7pm– ESPN:  Before the Superbowl, we have one more football game to be played. Due to struggling ratings and a general lack of interest, the NFL has tweaked the Pro Bowl format in recent years and seems to have settled on an unconferenced  format that appeals to fans. With a real-life twist on fantasy Football. Team Irvin vs Team Rice. The Pro Bowl draft will be held on Wednesday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m on ESPN 2.
