The Hawks won their fourth-consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 9-0-1 league mark and captured their second MAAC Tournament title. They also made their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance which included their first-ever goal in the NCAA Tournament. A big part of the teams’ success this past season was redshirt-freshman Madie Gibson. Gibson led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in goals (12) and points (33) in her rookie campaign for the Hawks. After beginning the season as a defender, Gibson was moved to the forward position by head coach Krissy Turner, a move that would pay off. Gibson was named an All-MAAC First Team choice and was also named the MAAC Rookie of the Year. She also became the Hawks’ first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. Now, Gibson can add two 2016 Double G Sports Awards to her accomplishments. She has been voted the 2016 Double G Sports Award for College Female Athlete of the Year as well as College Freshman of the Year. Gibson was one of four Monmouth players to start in every game this season. Among the other finalists for College Female Athlete of the Year were; Erin Smith (Rutgers Soccer), Breanna Stewart (UConn Basketball), and Charlotte Veitner (UConn Field Hockey). Joining Gibson as finalist for College Freshman of the Year were; Marisa Adelman (William Paterson soccer), Jalen Brunson (Villanova basketball), and Nicole Whitley (Rutgers soccer).
