College Monmouth Softball Adds Five For 2016-17 Season by Staff Post June 17, 2016 (Courtesy: Monmouth University Photo) Monmouth University head women’s softball coach Shannon Salsburg has announced the signings of five additional players for the 2016-17 season. Morgan Balderas of Kansas, Alex Holzman of Kansas, Tyranny Royster of Maryland, Megan Stauffer of Pennsylvania and Amber Wozniak of San Diego recently committed to the Hawks. They join prior signees Amanda Hopeck of Watchung Hills, Deangie Jimenez of New York State and Kayla Rosado of River Dell to form the program’s incoming class for the 2016-17 academic year. Balderas, a second baseman, won numerous postseason honors at Highland Community College, an NJCAA Division II junior college. She hit .428 as a senior and set the school’s single-season home run record with 22 as a freshman. She took ownership of the two-year career record of 37 with 15 homers as a senior. Holzman, a catcher-shortstop, also captured numerous postseason honors at Division II, starring for Cowley County Community College. As a sophomore, she ht .540 with 17 homers, 68 RBI, 58 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. Her two-year home run total was 31 as she hit 14 as a freshman. She drove in 129 career runs. Royster, an outfielder, batted .385 as a senior with a .520 on-base percentage, 15 stolen bases and 15 runs scored. Stauffer, a right-handed pitcher, compiled a 1.98 earned run average and batted ,383 over her first three years of high school. Wozniak, a shortstop-outfielder, was named her team’s Most Valuable Player in three straight seasons. “I am very excited to add all five of these student-athletes to our softball family,” Salsburg said on the Hawks’ web site. “What makes this group so special is its versatility and ability to impact us instantly offensively.
