Tim Tebow (USA Today)Did you actually think we would go an extended period of time without talking about Tim Tebow? Sorry, the Mets have other plans. The team announced that the former Heisman winner will be moving from Class A Columbia to Class A Advanced St. Lucie. That means he is one step closing to making the major league roster.According to MiLB.com, Tebow will address the media on Tuesday before St. Lucie takes the field at 6:30p.m. against the Palm Beach Cardinals. It is an interesting promotion considering the stats the man has produced during his time as a baseball player. Playing for Columbia, Tim Tebow hit about .220 in 63 games. He had 14 doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI’s to go along with a .651 OPS. While that doesn’t sound sexy, he has certainly produced more than anyone expected.httpss://twitter.com/michaelgbaron/status/879040732471975936GM Sandy Alderson spoke to the media after announcing the promotion. At first, he joked about a Amed Rosario call-up, as cruel as that sounds. Alderson acknowledged the fact that Tebow’s numbers were not up to par with other major league prospects. He did, however, give him praise for what he has been able to do, stating (via Fox Sports):“It’s not like he’s tearing up the league, but at the same time all of the indications are positive in terms of various things we look at — chase rates and exit velocity. The bottom line is the average isn’t there, but he’s improving.” One thing that has benefited Tebow during his time as a Met is the fact that he is around various ballplayers. At 29-years old, he can learn a lot from the veterans in the minors, and even the young prospects who have a bright future. It appears that he loves to learn, and is taking in everything he can to improve himself everyday. How that transitions to a higher platform in baseball remains to be seen. With the rate the team is going, seeing Tim Tebow as a September call-up is more realistic than ever before. The first step to prove he actually belongs however is in Florida. Playtime is over for Tebow. The real work is about to begin.
