College Myles Powell to return to Seton Hall for senior season After testing the NBA Draft waters, Seton Hall star guard Myles Powell announced that he would be returning for his senior season. by Kahlil Thomas May 30, 2019 After a successful junior season, many believed that Myles Powell would leave school and pursue a career in the NBA. On Wednesday, Seton Hall received great news as Powell announced that he would be returning for his senior season. Powell made it official on Twitter. Powell, who sits at number 12 on Seton Hall’s all-time scoring list, averaged 23 points a game last season for the Pirates. The season featured a star-making performance against Kentucky at The Garden and numerous instances of Powell taking games over. While 2018-2019 was a breakout season, Powell was not projected as a high pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The lukewarm evaluation made the decision easier for Powell, who will more than likely approach All-American status this forthcoming season. “We’re excited to have him back,” Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard said to the Asbury Park Press. “I’m really proud of the way he attacked the process with maturity. He looked at it as, ‘What do I need to do long-term and where am I at?’ I think he grew up a lot and learned a lot about himself.” With Powell’s return, Seton Hall returns four starters from an NCAA Tournament team. This upcoming season will see early matchups against Michigan State and Iowa State. Add in a visit to the Bahamas for the annual Battle 4 Atlantis tournament and an always tough Big East schedule and the Pirates will have stiff competition this season. Powell will look to continue his rise as his scoring, rebounding and assist numbers have increased every year at The Hall. Something that also increased was Powell’s minutes as the All-Big East player played a career-high 36 minutes per game. Could the increased minutes become a detriment for Powell in his final season? The hope is that players like Jared Rhoden and Anthony Nelson could spell Powell in more situations to save him for crunch time. For the 6’2″ Powell, his Seton Hall journey is not completed. The Pirates are hoping to move past the second round of the NCAA Tournament and possibly beyond. With his senior leadership and an experienced returning roster, there is no doubt that anything is possible in South Orange.
