Auto Racing NASCAR pushes race time back due to Tour De France…seriously! by Staff Post July 23, 2016 When the remaining stock car fans expect your race to be its usual 1:00 pm EST start time, why change it? Oh yea, the Tour De France! I had completely forgotten how special that race is to NO ONE. While all 17 of the purest cycling fans get their fix of a ceremonial final lap to announce a winner, which oddly takes four hours, the American NASCAR fans will be frantically changing channels wondering where their race went and if it got cancelled like that ‘B’ in apartment 23. The start of the race at Indianapolis is now pushed back until 3:30 pm EST. Suddenly there’s a tiny bit more drama. Not only because it stands to be the hottest race in Indianapolis history, but if poor weather intervenes, a delay could cause the race to be cancelled. IMS doesn’t have lights. If a delay occurs and the drivers have to finish in the waning sunlight, crashes could ensue! Is that what NASCAR needs? Is it ok to crash if no one gets hurt? Not for the owners, probably but when in the history of sports do we, the fans, care about owners? Jeff Gordon’s return from retirement is Sunday. NASCAR doesn’t even have enough clout to keep their start time on an NBCSN broadcast. I bet they wouldn’t push aside Olympic golf… Wait, what?
