MMA Nate Diaz will reportedly return to the octagon at UFC 230 in NYC against Dustin Poirier Both Diaz and Poirier, looking to become title contenders, will settle who is the best under the bright lights of New York City by Daniel Yanofsky August 3, 2018 Are you ready for an absolute slobberknocker of a fight? There are several reports stating that Nate Diaz will return to the UFC for the first time in two years. His opponent? Dustin Poirier. A fight this big is fit for a coliseum-type arena. It will be, as UFC 230 inside Madison Square Garden is the destination. The Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire was the first to report the news. It is expected to be the cards co-main event. Diaz’s (19-11) return is somewhat surprising. His last fight was a majority decision loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 back in April 2016. That was the second fight between the two, with a third fight expected to take place down the line. Receiving a $2 million payday, Diaz has not been seen from since, minus a few entertaining moments while in the crowd at big events. In his last five fights, Nate is 3-2. With rumors of Conor and Khabib facing off, a tough fight against “The Diamond” might end up being the best fight for Diaz to take. This is the type of fight Poirier (24-5, 1 NC) wanted. After knocking out Eddie Alvarez at UFC on Fox 30, Poirier requested either a title or money fight. With the division locked up at the moment with Khabib and Conor reports running wild, the latter will have to do. Poirier has won three in a row, and has won eight of nine fights in the lightweight division. Nobody is as big of a challenge in a money fight today than Nate Diaz. The Stockton native has been waiting for a fight that entices him (title or Conor bout), and it seems like “The Diamond” got his attention. This could end up being one of the most violent bouts in UFC history. Both have a record of hitting hard, especially Diaz. It is a fight worthy of a New York atmosphere. Expect sparks to fly, especially when the buildup to the fight starts. Tickets for UFC 230 are not on sale yet. Stay tuned for further updates.
