Nathan Eovaldi in Agreement with Boston Red Sox

On Thursday, FOX Sports writer and commentator Ken Rosenthal tweeted out:

“Free-agent RHP Nathan Eovaldi in agreement with , pending physical, sources tell The Athletic.”

This comes as a slightly expected announcement as Eovaldi had high success with Boston this past season after coming from the Tampa Bay Rays. He pitched 54 innings during his time with the Red Sox in 2018 and finished posting a 3.33 ERA.

Eovaldi is well known for his incredible velocity on his fastball, and outstanding work ethic. Eovaldi threw for 12 games of the season, picking up 48 strikeouts along the way.

The 6’2″ right-hander was a key piece to the Red Sox World Series victory as well, throwing 22.1 overall innings throughout the postseason. He only allowed five runs the whole postseason, and recorded 16 strikeouts. He was in for six games and had a 2-1 postseason record. Eovaldi is a key starter to the Boston rotation, and his work in the 2019 season is highly anticipated along the likes of Chris Sale and David Price.

The New York Yankees have now lost out on two rumored free agent targets. After Patrick Corbin signed with the Washington Nationals, reporters surfaced that the Yankees had Eovaldi in their sights. Where do they go now? Does this enhance the chances of New York resigning J.A. Happ?
