New Jersey Jackals Defeat Cuban National Team 5-3

Thursday June 30th featured a rubber match game between the Cuban National team and the second place New Jersey Jackals. Cuban player Luis Robert batting 3rd hit a 2-out double in the top of the first. Luis Robert is on many MLB scouts radars but clearly his future is uncertain at this point in time. Robert showed good speed in the game and great range in left field.

In the bottom of the first the Jackals got the leadoff man aboard with a single. Followed by a pop out in left field foul territory, Robert showed great defense to make the catch then showed a strong arm with effortless power as he attempted to throw out the runner at second, who was tagging from first. The Jackals proceeded to put up four runs in the bottom of the first. The Cuban team showed signs of being young and emotional at times. Displaying passion for the game was great to watch and seeing how invested in the competition the Cubans were was spectacular.

The Jackals tacked on another run in the bottom of the second. While the Cuban team fought back and put up three in the top of third, the Jackals solid defense and excellent pitching allowed them to come out victorious by a final of a 5-3.

The Jackals are now sitting 26-14 sitting ½ game back of the Quebec Capitales.

Art Charles was named CanAm player of the week twice in the month of June. At the conclusion of the month Charles also received player of the month honors.
