New Look Red Storm Gearing Up For 2015-16 Season

It’s a brand new beginning for the Red Storm!

The Saint Johns University men’s basketball team not only has a new coach, Chris Mullin, a former Johnny basketball player, five-time NBA all-star player, and Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer, who’s been the hot talk for the past six months, but also nine new comers, to add to three returning players from last year. With four transfers and five freshmen, the Johnnies are set for a huge comeback, under Mullin’s wings.

The Red Storm’s 2015 recruiting class is rated as high as 39th overall according, a affiliate. St John’s new team features a whole lot of contributions that include massive experience and international talent.

Returning Johnnies, Felix Balamou, Amar Alibegovic, and Christian Jones, have an entire new team of brothers for the 2015-2016 basketball season. Some of their new teammates already have previous experience with college level basketball including, Durand Johnson, a 6’6” Guard/Forward from Baltimore, Maryland, who is a graduate transfer from Pittsburgh. Joining them are Ron Mvouika, a 6’6” Guard/Forward from Paris, France, who is a graduate transfer from Missouri State, Darien Williams, a 6’8” Forward from San Francisco, California, who is a junior college transfer from City College of San Francisco, and Tariq Owens, a 6’10” Forward from Odenton, Maryland, who is a transfer from Tennessee, but must sit out for the whole 2015-2016 season.

The freshmen class is also full of a plethora of strong talent, who come from all over the globe. Malik Ellison is a 6’6” Shooting Guard from Voorhees, New Jersey, who is No. 11 in New Jersey from national recruiting services and received a consensus rating of No. 53 for his position. Marcus LoVett, Jr., a 6’0” Point Guard, is from Fort Wayne, Indiana and is a four-star, consensus top-25 point guard. Joining the Red Storm from Girona, Spain, is a 6’11” Center, Yankuba Sima, who was ranked as high as No. 14 at his position by major national recruiting services for the Class of 2015. Federico Mussini, a 6’1” Point Guard from Reggio Emilia, Italy, is considered one of the top point guards in Europe for his class and is also rated as high as No. 13, according to From Bamako, Mali, is 6’7” Power Forward, Kassoum Yakwe, who is a four-star prospect and consensus Top-100 recruit. Lastly, from Atlanta, Georgia, a 6’2” Guard, Elijah Holifield.

It is already looking like a great start for Chris Mullin and the Johnnies’ 2015-2016 men’s basketball season. Let’s see what happens next!
