Feature New York Islanders Catch a Break, Clinch Playoff Berth by Jayson Love April 10, 2015 credit: islanders.nhl.com The Islanders good early to mid-season work was finally rewarded Thursday night. They can now breathe a bit more easily. They are at the very least, a playoff team. The Rangers couldn’t beat the Senators on Thursday but the Islanders got help from Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers took down the Boston Bruins in regulation, a loss that really helped the Senators, but assisted the Islanders as well. The Islanders can now focus on positioning and not worry about what would have been an epic collapse from potential division champion, to probable first round home ice advantage, to out of the playoffs entirely. Currently, the Isles sit in 3d place in the Metropolitan division which would mean a home ice advantage at the Coliseum – something the Islanders desperately want in their last season on Long Island. They sit 2 points in front of Pittsburgh with two games to go and a huge showdown with the Penguins on Friday is looming and two games left in the season. Flights to New York City can be booked through Hipmunk.com for out of state Isles fans looking to watch their team in the playoffs one final time at Nassau Coliseum. Fans looking to stay in Manhattan can also find New York City hotels at Hipmunk for as little as $125 per night during the month of April. From there, you will be just a quick transit ride away from the game.
